Observation of Causes of Blindness on Blind Patients


Abstract
This is a study on the causes of the blindness for 335 blind patients. Blindness in defined as the visual acuity for distance of 0.1(20/200) or less in the better eye with best Correction.
The causes of blindness in descending order of frequency are as follows: Injury & intoxication(16.4%), refraction (4. 8%), systemic disease (4.8%6), and congenital disease (1.2¢¥ %). Rate of blindness by site and type of affection is shown as: Cataract (37.9%) corneal disease (14.0 0 , retinal disease(7.7 0 , glaucoma (6.0%), atrophia bulbi (5.8%), amblyopia (5.4%), uveitis(3.3%), high myopia(3.3%), optic Neuritis(3%),aphakia(3%), anophthalmos (3%), and vitreous hemorrhage(2.4%), ect.
